I was quoted in Jessica Blake’s Inside Higher Ed article regarding antisemitism on college campuses.
The Inside Higher Ed article “New Study Highlights Campus Antisemitism ‘Hot Spots’” examines a Brandeis University report that analyzes Jewish students’ perceptions of antisemitism across different college campuses. The study finds significant variation in students’ concerns about anti-Jewish and anti-Israel hostility, with some institutions emerging as “hot spots” of antisemitism. Pamela Nadell, director of the Jewish studies program at American University, contextualizes these findings within broader national trends, emphasizing that rising campus antisemitism is part of a wider phenomenon in the U.S. She references past incidents and the White House’s 2023 National Strategy to Combat Antisemitism, underscoring the urgency of addressing the issue at both institutional and governmental levels.
Pamela Nadell, director of the Jewish studies program at American University, said her research confirms similar trends, and she noted events such as a physically combative 2018 rally involving pro-Israel and pro-Palestinian students at New York University or when the Williams College student government declined official recognition of a newly formed pro-Israel student group in 2019.
